SEAI Solar PV Grants for Homes in 2026

SEAI continues to support domestic solar PV installations in 2026 with a grant scheme designed to reduce upfront cost. Under the Solar PV Scheme, homeowners and certain property owners can receive support of up to €1,800 towards their solar installation.

The grant is structured on a per-kWp basis — meaning installers and customers should calculate expected output to understand how much grant support is available for each system size.

Eligibility typically requires:

  • The property must have a valid MPRN (Meter Point Reference Number).
  • The applicant should apply before installation begins to secure approved grant status.
  • The property must meet scheme criteria, including age and occupancy conditions.

This grant makes solar more accessible by lowering the initial investment and improving payback times — an important factor driving installer demand.

Business Solar Support

In addition to residential solar grants, businesses can access support under broader SEAI programmes. These may include:

  • energy efficiency grants for commercial properties
  • supports for larger PV installations beyond domestic size
  • eligibility for schemes linked to energy performance upgrades in business settings

In 2025 more than 4,500 businesses were supported through SEAI grant schemes to reduce their energy costs, and this trend is expected to continue in 2026 with refreshed programmes and new funding rounds.

These supports help businesses improve competitiveness by reducing operational energy costs and aligning with sustainability goals.

Farm and Agricultural Solar Grants

Farmers and landowners may qualify for solar support under schemes like the Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme (TAMS). TAMS can provide significant grant support — in some cases up to 40–60% of the cost of solar PV investment for eligible farms, depending on the agricultural sub-sector.

This makes solar a compelling choice for farms seeking to:

  • Reduce energy costs on operations
  • Increase energy independence
  • Improve sustainability credentials in export markets

Why Solar Grants Continue to Matter

Government and SEAI support has helped Ireland to grow solar PV installations rapidly — with thousands of homes, businesses and farms installing PV systems with grant support in recent years.

Without this support, the upfront cost of solar may deter many potential adopters. Grants improve affordability and help the industry scale — reducing reliance on fossil fuels and accelerating Ireland’s clean energy transition.
